Differences Between CBD Oil and Hemp Seed Oil
In the United States and Canada, the cannabis industry is taking off. Canada has fully legalized cannabis for all medicinal and recreational use and the United States is beginning to recognize that cannabis is safe and that there are numerous ways that it can be used for medicinal purposes. This is reflected in the growing medical cannabis and legal cannabis markets, which is expected to grow from approximately $6.6 billion in 2016 to $24.1 billion in 2025.
As cannabis becomes more popular, so does CBD oil, which is a natural substance that is extracted and separated from a cannabis plant or hemp plant and may have numerous health benefits.
As CBD oil becomes more popular, there are more and more CBD products on the market. In the crowded marketplace, you may also begin to see “hemp seed oil.” While CBD oil and hemp seed oil are both oils that come from the hemp plants, they are two completely different substances.
How is hemp seed oil different from full spectrum CBD oil?
What Is CBD Oil?
CBD or cannabidiol is one of the 100+ chemical substances that are known as cannabinoids. A cannabinoid is a class of chemical compounds that act on cannabinoid receptors. Cannabinoids attach to special receptors in your body called CB1 receptors and CB2 receptors. CB1 receptors are present in the body and the brain and bind to THC. CB2 receptors are most prevalent in the immune system and affect inflammation and pain. CBD directs the body to produce more of its own cannabinoids, which can have an anti-inflammatory effect.
Because CBD is so similar to our body’s endocannabinoid system, our bodies tend to integrate them better than many man-made prescription drugs. CBD has numerous potential health benefits but comes without harsh side effects.
CBD oil is extracted from the hemp or cannabis plant. The oil can come from the whole plant. The extraction process usually involves extracted CBD from a hemp flower that has been specially cultivated to have high levels of CBD and low levels or trace amounts of THC. CBD oils vary greatly in the quality of the product. When purchasing a CBD product, ensure that you are purchasing from a reputable source and know the amount of CBD and levels of THC that is contained in each product.

CBD’s Health Benefits
An increasing amount of scientific research and recent clinical trials have highlighted the potential benefits of CBD for a wide range of conditions, including:
- Antioxidant properties that can remove the toxic substances that are often prevalent in inflammatory conditions such as inflammatory conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, arthritis, and lupus.
- Reducing the clinical progression of age-related diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease.
- Improvement in some autoimmune diseases such as lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.
- Therapeutic benefits for conditions such as psychosis, depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
- Providing chronic pain relief by interacting with receptors in the brain and the immune system that reduce inflammation and alleviate pain.
- Lowering blood pressure.
- Reducing psychotic symptoms associated with mental disorders such as schizophrenia.
- Inhibiting the growth of tumors
What Is Hemp Seed Oil?
Hemp seed oil is commonly extracted from industrial hemp plant seeds. It is usually harvested by cold-pressing hemp seeds. This is a similar process to how olive oil and coconut oil is made. It is sometimes also referred to as hemp oil. Hemp seed oil is regulated and tested for THC and CBD, but it does not contain either of these cannabinoids.
Hemp seed oil is considered a superfood because it contains high levels of vitamin E, omega fatty acids, fiber, protein, and other nutrients. Because of its high nutrient level, hemp seed oil has many health benefits.
Benefits of Hemp Seed Oil
Hemp seed oil has numerous health benefits. Hemp oil contains essential fatty acids, including docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), that are required for brain development. DHA is important for the health of the brain and the retina in the eye. Pregnant mothers who take hemp oil supplements during pregnancy may even provide brain and eye protective benefits for their unborn baby.
Hemp seed oil contains a 3:1 ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3 fatty acids, which has been shown to promote heart health and cardiovascular function. The Omega-6 that is contained in hemp oil is gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), which is useful to help the body balance hormones. GLA may also help ease menstrual cramps and premenstrual syndrome (PMS).
Hemp oil is also a great moisturizer. It is perfect for most skin types because it can moisturize without clogging your pores. It can also help balance out oily skin, by hydrating it while also regulating the skin’s oil production.
Hemp seed oil also has anti-aging properties. The linoleic acid and oleic acids that are found in hemp seed oil cannot be produced by the body but play a critical role in skin health and anti-aging. Hemp seed oil has been shown to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and prevent other signs of aging.
Hemp seed oil is created with a much simpler extraction process and is priced at a much lower price point than CBD oil. Be very careful to determine which oil you are buying. Hemp seed oil prices are more consistent with the price of avocado oil while CBD Hemp oil has a very expensive and complicated extraction process that makes the price point of the product more similar to specialized nutritional supplements or high-end skin creams.
Is CBD Legal?
CBD that is derived from hemp, which is included in all Supernaturals products, is legal all over the United States. Additionally, our products have 0% THC.
